Why not ₹22,000cr for LPG users: KTR

Hyderabad : Taking a dig at the Centre for granting ₹22,000 crore to the oil companies, TRS working president and industry minister KT Rama Rao asked why such a special package was not offered to women, who were burdened by rising LPG prices.

He said BJP’s debacle should begin from kitchens of poor and middle class women who have been suffering due to rising gas cylinder prices .

The minister said the price of a gas cylinder was ₹400 before Narendra Modi became Prime Minister. The current price of a gas cylinder is now 1,100. He said Modi has positioned himself as a ‘vishwa guru’ in raising LPG prices.

“When Modi was Gujarat CM, he would question the then PM Manmohan Singh when price of a gas cylinder was just 400. Now what answers does he (Modi) have on the issue,” KTR wondered.

He said the Centre offered a subsidy of 827 on each cylinder in 2014, which was brought down to zero by the Modi government. KTR said the Centre was insensitive towards middle class whose savings plummeted because of Covid-19 and lockdowns.
