TPCC passes resolution for Rahul as Cong chief
Hyderabad : Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday passed a resolution unanimously urging Rahul Gandhi to take over as president of the party.
With this, TPCC has joined the list of 10 other PCCs which have passed unanimous resolutions to this effect. Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra state PCCs have passed similar resolutions. More PCCs are expected to adopt such resolutions as the election date for AICC president draws closer.
Notification for the AICC president’s election is scheduled to be issued on September 22 and filing of nominations between September 24 and 30. Polling, if needed, will be held on October 17. Counting of votes and result will be on October 19.
Telangana Congress president A Revanth Reddy moved the resolution stating that BJP was dividing the nation on religious lines through its hatred politics and that leaders like Rahul Gandhi who have taken up Bharat Jodo Yatra to unite the country should lead the Congress as well as the nation. The resolution was unanimously approved by PCC delegates and AICC members.
The meeting also passed another resolution unanimously authorizing AICC president Sonia Gandhi to nominate, elect or select the Telangana Congress president, AICC members and the executive committee. With this, the election process of TPCC has come to an end, said Rajmohan and CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka.
As per tradition, the PCCs authorise the AICC president to nominate the PCC president. Though there had been opposition to Revanth’s leadership, the meeting unanimously passed the resolution.
