Die is cast, BRS name change plea with ECI

Hyderabad : A day after Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) general body meeting passed a resolution changing its name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), a delegation submitted the resolution copy to Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday seeking change of name.

TRS supremo and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had signed the resolution copy soon after passing it at exactly 1. 19 pm, considered to be auspicious, at party HQ Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday.

On Thursday, former MP and Telangana state planning board vice chairman B Vinod Kumar and ex-MLC M Srinivas Reddy submitted the resolution copy to deputy election commissioner Dharmendra Sharma.

“The ECI said they will examine and take necessary action,” Vinod Kumar told TOI.

The resolution, passed unanimously by the TRS general body including TRS MLAs, MLCs and MPs, reads, “The TRS in its state general bodymeeting dated October 5, 2022, has passed a resolution to change the name from TRS to BRS. To that effect, necessary amendments to the party Constitution have also been made in the same meeting. The resolution and the amended party constitution is submitted. ”

With this, TRS, formed 21 years ago with regional aspirations seeking a separate state of Telangana, has now changed its character to a party with national ambitions.

The TRS meeting was attended by Karnataka ex-CM and JD (S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, his 20 party MLAs, MP Thirumavalavan, who is founder of Tamil Nadu’s VCK, and his party functionaries, besides some farmer leaders.

KCR said that SP’s Akhilesh Yadav and Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav were also supposed to attend, but could not join.
