GHMC planning new cycling tracks for Hyd

Hyderabad : In a bid to create a safe path for cyclists across the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to build at least two exclusive cycling tracks for ea ch of the six zones in the city.

After garnering good response from the one built in Shaikpet, officials are working on different suitable designs for cycling tracks on different routes. Roads with three lanes and above are to have permanent cycling tracks while some of the selected routes will have temporary ones. Official sources also note that the new corridors that would be developed in the future will also be designedwith a cycling lane. “Temporary ones are basically lanes created to be cycle tracks for about two hours in the morning. During those timings, bollards will be placed to prevent other vehicles from entering that track,” a seniorGHMC engineer told TOI. The permanent ones will have concrete barriers on either side

to ensure that it stands exclusive for cycling. Officials also noted that they are planning to allow both cycles and two-wheelers to travel in these permanent lanes during heavy traffic situatio ns. Currently, plans are in motion to develop these cycle lanes between Biodiversity Junction-Leather Park, Khajaguda-Nanakramguda, Tolichowki-Shaikpet, Biodiversity Park-IKEA, Mehidipatnam-Gachibowli, Gachibowli Junction-Biodiversity, IDL Lake-JNTU-Forum Mall and Tankbund-PVNR Marg RoadNTR Marg Road.
