Genome Valley set to get ₹1,100cr infusion
Hyderabad : The life sciences cluster of Genome Valley in Hyderabad is all set to draw additional investments of ₹1,100 crore and create around 3,000 new jobs. Telangana industries minister KT Rama Rao inaugurated and laid foundation stones for over half a dozen projects here, including a biopharma incubator called B-Hub on the lines of T-Hub, on Tuesday.
Pointing out that the demand for space at Genome Valley was soaring, KTR said Hyderabad has the largest multi-tenanted lab space in India at 3 million sq ft with upcoming projects all set to add another 2 million sq ft of multi-tenanted lab space in the city over the next few years.
“Genome Valley has more plug-and-play facilities than the rest of all the clusters combined in India. We have a good problem on hand. We are running out of space at the cluster,” he said. He said the Genome Valley cluster, which houses over 200 pharma and biotech companies with a valuation of $50 billion, is now gunning for a $100 billion valuation by 2030, much ahead of the targeted timeline.
KTR laid the foundation stone for the Telangana government’s incubator Biopharma Hub (B-Hub) on thelines of T-Hub to boost the biopharma startup ecosystem in Hyderabad. The 1. 5 lakh sq ft B-Hub, which will play the role of a catalyst, will house a stateof-the-art bioprocess scaleup facility, GLP (good laboratory practice) grade turnkey incubator of 40,000 sq ft, R&D lab spaces, collaboration modules and Grade A training rooms.
B-Hub will be developed by Rx Propellant, a Hyderabad-based life sciences infrastructure and cluster developer in which UK-based global investment firm Actis owns majority stake. KTR also laid the foundation stones for five projects being developed by Rx Propellant that are spread over 9 lakh sq ft, including BHub, at a total investment of 900 crore. These projects, which are slated for completion over the next couple of years, include a marquee biopharma project GV1 and three phase-2 projects being set up by the company.
During his visit to Genome Valley, KTR also inaugurated a new electrical and electronics product testing and certification lab at Vimta Labs that has been set up at an investment of 70 crore. Apart from this, he also inaugurated a process development facility at Yapan Bio, in which Piramal Pharma picked up a stake in December 2021, as well as a 28,000 sq ft preclinical research facility at GV Research Platform.
