Constitution: Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao clarifies remarks

HYDERABAD: Nearly two weeks after seeking a new Constitution, Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday explained reasons for making such a suggestion.

"The Dalit population has increased to 19% and their reservations too should be enhanced. Women have no safety and they need to be given equal rights in property. BC caste-wise enumeration should be taken up and the Centre should be stopped from usurping powers of states. These are some crucial issues for which I suggested the need for a new Constitution should be discussed," KCR said.

He brushed aside a 'vicious campaign' by opposition parties. "Ambedkar garu said there should be a progressive Constitution," he said. KCR added that for India to progress on the lines of Telangana, he had sought a new Constitution.
