Congress sees Modi’s hand behind Azad’s resignation

Congress tied its renegade leader Ghulam Nabi Azad to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming his resignation was remote-controlled by the BJP mascot with whom his relationship has been on public display.

The party also attacked him for the timing of the letter, ahead of an agitation to rally people against polarisation and when party chief Sonia Gandhi is on a trip overseas for medical check-up.

AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “The person whom the leadership respected the most, that person has shown his true character by making a personal attack on the Congress leadership. First Modi’s tears in Parliament, then the Padma Vibhushan, then the extension of the house… It’s not a coincidence, it’s cooperation!” He added, “GNA’s DNA has been Modi-fied. ”

Ramesh’s three-point reference to allege Azad’s nexus with Modi alludes to his farewell session in Rajya Sabha where Modi praised him and broke down narrating an incident when Azad was theCM of Jammu & Kashmir, his continued stay in his South Avenue MP bungalow after over a year of leaving the RS, and the Padma award to him from the BJP regime.

Congress spokesman Pawan Khera mocked that one and half pages of Azad’s five-page resignation letter that detailed the various posts he had held over half a century. “Then he says ‘I did selfless service’. Great!” Khera remarked, adding that Azad became restless after losing his Rajya Sabha membership. Calling Azad “remote controlled”, Khera said, “We have seen the love between Modi and Azad, it was also seen in Parliament. That love has been manifested in this letter. ”
