BJP victory in Munugode will signal the end of TRS: Shah

Hyderabad : Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday led the saffron blitzkrieg against the K Chandrasekhar-led TRS government in Telangana from battleground Munugode which is poised for a crucial by-election in the run-up to high-stakes assembly polls next year.

Giving a clarion call to uproot the ‘corrupt’ TRS regime at the ‘samara bheri’ (war cry) rally, he called upon people to ensure the victory of BJP candidate Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, whose resignation from Congress and the Munugode assembly seat prompted the bypoll.

“Raj Gopal Reddy’s poll victory is not just for Munugode, but the beginning of the end of the TRS, which will sink into oblivion after the assembly elections,” said Shah.

Telangana will soon have a BJP chief minister and Raj Gopal Reddy’s bypoll victory will be a crowning moment for the party before KCR’s family rule is wiped out fromthe state, he said.
“The ‘samara bheri’ rally is not just about welcoming Raj Gopal Reddy to the BJP fold, it has larger ramifications. There’s an urgent need to end corruption and suffering under TRS rule. Let’s join hands to defeat this government and allow Telangana to prosper like other states under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership,” he said.

The home minister also lambasted the chief ministerfor reneging on his promise to mark September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day.
“Every promise made was forgotten. BJP will implement this when it takes over reins,” he said, while accusing TRS of siding with ‘razakars’ in an oblique reference to its ally, AIMIM.

He also charged KCR with going back on his promise of 2BHK flats, Dalit Bandhu and unemployment benefits. Leave alone housing schemes, TRS government is now allowing construction of toilets under the Centre’s flagship project,” he said.

Targeting the TRS government for its failure to provide jobs, he said, “Did teachers’ recruitment happen since 2014? Have tribals got even a single acre under the present regime,” Shah asked.

In Shah’s presence, several leaders, including retired IPS officer Krishna Prasad and TRS government’s former representative in Delhi, Ramachandru, joined BJP.

Continuing his tirade at the KCR government, he said that the TRS government failed to reduce VAT on petrol, triggering high inflation in Telangana.

“PM Narendra Modi twice slashed fuel prices, but if there’s any state government that has not reduced VAT on petrol, it’s Telangana,” he said.

Shah claimed the state is trapped in a loan burden despite the Centre allocating Rs2 lakh crore to the state, while reiterating massive irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project.
